What are the functions of the county recorders office?

The county recorder has primarily three (3) functions:

1. Land Record Manager. A record of each patent, deed, mortgate, bill of sale and any document related to threse transactions is kept by this office. This insures a permanent record of property ownership and financial responsibilities.

2. UCC/CNS. The county recorder office is connected through a statewide computer service linking all 53 counties of North Dakota, the Secretary of State and other state offices. This system provides a fast, accurate method to process loans and services.

3. Customers. There is a wide variety of customers which come to this office. They use the available records for a variety of interests. These interests range from documenting legal instruments, creating abstracts, land appraisals, search ancestry, research historical data, and many others.
